Mobile Sawmilling This service is
based around a Wood-Mizer sawmill that is towed to site behind our Land
Rover. The sawmill can lift and saw logs up to 6.25m (20ft6in) in length
and up to 0.9m (3ft) in diameter. Setting up and sawing on site requires
far less road transport of timber and far less site damage from heavy
machinery, and maximizes the value and utilisation of wood for the owner.
In effect we 'custom' saw to client's specifications, in some cases
matching old building timbers, in other cases creating pieces for large
scale furniture- there are no standard sizes! If
you are unsure as to what is possible with the timber we saw, we will
shortly be publishing a Gallery of projects that our clients have
undertaken. We are insured
to £2 million Public Liability for all aspects of our
work.
Site Visits We always arrange a site visit and consultation with new clients in order to find the best way to approach each job and discuss what is possible with the available timber. This is a free service, and we will send a written quote and advice afterwards. We will always discuss the best way to fell, move and present the timber for sawing, and are happy to quote for and arrange this work (see Tree & Woodland Work below). In many ways it is best for a visit to be arranged before any felling takes place, and for us to view the site. Oversize Logs Oversize logs can be sawn on the Wood-Mizer after initial work with a chainsaw mill system, this can also be used for inaccessible trees or very awkward sites. In some cases we will bring in another sawyer who has a mill that can be built up around very large logs. Back to the top..... |
Tree Surgery & Woodland WorkTree Surgery We are fully certificated & experienced in all aspects of Tree Surgery and Arboricultural works; from climbing and pruning to planting of rootballed trees and cable bracing. All our tree work is carried out to British Standard BS 3998:1989 Recommendations for Tree Work, which provides a framework for safe working practices and tree health care. We are insured to £2 million Public Liability for all aspects of our work. Woodland & Estate Work
On the Woodland and Estate side, we practice traditional hedge-laying,
coppice work, thinning, felling and environmental works using materials
and methods that suit the local surroundings. We also carry out
tree planting schemes from a single ornamental tree, to orchard,
hedge and woodland planting.
Timber Movement Whenever we move or 'extract' timber, we make it our priority to minimise damage to the ground and remaining trees; using, as well as conventional forestry machines, small scale low impact methods that complement the mobile sawmilling aspect of our work. We can cost effectively move timber from sensitive, steep or wet sites with the minimum of compaction, disturbance and visible damage. We can also move timber around garden and landscaped areas with almost no marking of turfed and paved areas. Back to the top..... |

We hold a growing stock of of local timbers at our workshop near Cranleigh in Surrey. Oak is available fresh sawn to order or air dried, including larger pieces for timber frame repairs, building conservation, and the like. We have a much greater variety than high street DIY and timber merchants, and are happy to discuss your requirements for wood turning, joinery and so on. We offer a large variety of timbers for bespoke house, shop and pub fittings for one off counters, bars, shelves, fireplaces, lintels and mantels. We also hold a stock of Ash for classic car, boat and vehicle repair. Beech, Hornbeam, Field Maple and Giant Redwood (Sequoia) are also available. We know where every piece of timber came from, and why it is with us... Building and Construction We can also carry a mobile sawmilling project through to final form on site, whether a building, bridge, treehouse, seating, or access works such as stiles and stairs. Our stock, machining and drying services will be improving over 2005, and we hope to provide solar kiln dried timber for 2006. In the meantime please get in touch to find out what is available.
